The Trimble Nomad series is a new, ultra-rugged family of field computers for
data collection and mobile GIS. Offered in a range of configurations;
optional features include an integrated GPS receiver with 2 to 5 meter post
processing accuracy, an integrated 2-megapixel digital camera, an integrated
barcode scanner, a built-in modem, the choice of a PDA or numeric keypad, or a non-GPS datalogger.
A long-life field-replaceable Lithium-ion (Li-lon) battery allows up to 15 hours
of operation with active use of GPS and wireless radio with the need to
recharge. The Nomad has a powerful 806 MHz processor and a high resolution
outdoor-viewable screen. making raster maps exceptionally clear. The integrated
GPS model is optimized for data collection in harsh conditions, including under
forest canopy and near tall buildings.
Up to 1 GB on-board data storage, a Secure Digital () slot , and a
CompactFlash (CF) slot for expandable data storage on certain models ensures
that you always have ample space for data and raster background maps. The
Nomad series is compatible with all Trimble Mapping & GIS GPS receivers,
including the GPS Pathfinder ProXH, ProXT and ProXRT receivers, allows Bluetooth
connection for cable-free use. The Nomad handheld computer that have
integrated 802.11b/g wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) radio be be used to
receive data anywhere within the range of a wireless access point. There a
many publicly available wireless LAN access points (also known as
"hotspots").
Capturing digital photographs in the field has never been so easy.
Using the optional integrated camera, images are stored directly on the device
and are available straight away to be used by your field software. The
Nomad series meets the rigorous MIL-STD-81F military standard for drops,
vibration, humidity, and extreme temperature. Nomad is completely sealed
from dust, and can survive submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30
minutes.
The units is designed to track all available GPS satellites. This
allows a maximize yield of positions in hostile environments, such as under
forest canopy, up against buildings, and in urban area.
